The Huntress - Dead by Daylight

Why this costume:
If you're new here or you haven't noticed when I love something, I truly love it. I make things I am passionate about and boy do I love Dead by Daylight. So, after the petite Nurse design, they gave us Anna, The Huntress. I knew I could pull her body type off better than I could the Nurse and I adore her. So, here we are.
Details Construction:
Research:
So, to begin I did tons of research on what exactly the Huntress was wearing based on her Lore and details. Her story places her in Russia sometime during/before WWII. I assume during Operation Barbarossa and into the end of WWII where she disappeared. Given this time period and the information listed in the Lore about her garment I was about to figure out the basic design of the original Sarafan she would have found herself adorn with. I used this information to begin my patterning process.
Top:
The top is made from woven wool fabric. Added details for the patterning were enhanced with a mixture of paint and sharpie. The top was sewn with two different woven wool fabrics. I tighter woven pattern was used for the sleeves and a more linear pattern was used for the body. The cummerbun style part of her sarafan was actually a recycled table cloth. It was the perfect shade of orange and the perfect cotton material. I sewed it on top of the woven wool fabric and hand painted the design on the front. The grey undershirt portion was just a faux undershirt and hand stitched to keep in place. Knowing I would wear it in Florida eventually, I was trying to keep the layers to a minimum.
Side Skirt:
Probably the most time consuming and most detailed portion of the outfit. I purchased denim material and constructed the pattern by draping the fabric to myself and cutting it to match. I actually printed out pattern designs from the computer. I then magnified them to hand paint on all the details and appropriate patterns and shapes as accurately as possible. I finished it off with an airbrushing of dark blue to lighten the look of the pattern. It was just extremely time consuming since everything was hand painted.I then took a small amount of orange fabric and hand painted it to match the design on her's. Sewed it on and went to town cutting and destroying it.
Pants:
Stand in for now. I will be making a new set for a photoshoot. Not 100% accurate and my least favorite part of the outfit, but I needed something easy and comfortable.
Weapons:
Seriously, all credit here goes to my friend James over at: HighlanderFX
He made both the throwing hatchet and the amazing Axe I have in the photos. I did some light painting on the Axe for detail purposes but all other work was his. To get a better look you can check out his Instagram with progress photos! Heck all his work is amazing...go look. Seriously.
Mask:
So, again....I'm just gonna send you over to my friend James. Because he made that amazing Hare mask. This includes the painting which was flawless. The only thing I made was the lace veil in the back. Lace material, some cording, and patience patterning it out with a little left over gabardine fabric for the top portion. Blood details were added with red puff paint. Let's be real though, it's all about the mask, not the veil, and without him I wouldn't have looked so badass.
Suspenders and belt:
Vinyl material I picked up at Joann's. I then double layered it and top stitched it together after drafting out the pattern for her suspenders and belt. The small details were all hand sewn on. The belt buckle was made of EVA foam and burned with a heat gun. I sealed it with wood glue and painted the details.
End look:
Everything was given a good wash and all final blood and dirt effects were added with paint, dye, and other materials. I didn't want any one thing to look new and it definitely needed to look patched together, like her lore suggests. This was the final step and one I have done with all my other DBD costumes.
Make-up:
Mehron Paradise in: Black and red. Snazaroo in Light Grey and Dark Grey. Lots of time...and love to apply. I sealed it with Mehron Sealing Spray and All Nighter Long-Lasting Setting spray by Urban Decay.
