Alastor - Hazbin HOtel
Why this costume:
After watching the pilot for Hazbin Hotel, I like so many others, was in love. Not only with the story concept but the designs and characters too. I was immediately drawn to Alastor. I wanted to make his wig more than anything....and after attempting to convince my male friend to let me make the costume/wig for them unsuccessfully I was heartbroken. I ended up finding the artwork on the left of a female Alastor and decided to make it for myself.
Make-up:
All done with make-up I previously owned, similar to my Moxxi, the base white make-up which is Mehron in Clown White.
Details Construction:
Dress:
Is actually two pieces. The skirt and the jacket/blouse. The tails are also separate pieces that I attach to the top. The coat and tails are lined for better body and final finish. It was a striped material slightly different from the skirt as the skirt was made from Stretch poplin. The skirt was a simple circle skirt. I sewed horsehair ribbon along the edge of the hem for an added "fullness" to the skirt. Finally some black bias was added along the edge for detail similar to the bottom of his pants.
Shoes:
So, something amazing and cute about the design of Alastor is that he is a deer. So, on the soles of his shoes are deer prints. I really wanted to wear heels but still get this effect. So, I hand painted his hooves onto the soles of my heels. The heels I saw and fell in love with since they are black and red gradient. I went with matching black and red gradient panty hose to match them and bring the effect together completely.
Cummerbund:
I actually went through a few of these but finally settled on the one with the bow. It was purchased off Amazon. The previous lace one was made for my Nurse costume but repurposed.
Wig:
I started with a red bas wig and cut it to the style of Alastor. At the time of purchase I also picked up two clip in ponytail extensions. I marked where I wanted his "ears" and added the clips. After some cutting/teasing/styling I was happy with the shape and went in with my airbrush. I added the black details with my airbrush and acrylic paint. Once I was happy with the effect I touched up the style and reattached the clip in pieces. I made the antlers out of worbla and painted them black with the same acrylic paint. I sewed them into the wig after feeding them through the inside. I have some progress photos below, but if you have questions please let me know.
Eyepiece:
The glass was made of transparent Worbla dyed red, then framed in EVA foam. The black balls that "float" are model magic which was beaded through fishing line. The finishing line attaches to a bobby pin which is secured behind my ear. The Monocle portion was held in place with eyelash glue, since luckily for me, Alastor wears his below his eye!
If you don't know what Hazbin Hotel is or have never watch it but are curious, I'll include a link to check it out. Please note this is a mature animation and not for children. You can check it our HERE.
