Sheena - Tales of Symphonia
Why this costume:
I absolutely love the Tales of Series. Sheena was always my favorite of the girls in Symphonia and was on my "to make list" for years. Well, I had a surgery and needed a comfortable costume I could wear all day without lots of restrictive parts. When looking at my list, I knew she would be perfect and it was time to make her!
Details:
I started out with picking up a purple, as well as, pink cotton fabric at my local fabric store. They didn't have many options, so it was a mid grade cotton. Due to this, I doubled up on the fabric so I could make sure everything was lined with the same fabric. This way it had both body/weight as well as wasn't too thin.
The kimono I made by just draping the fabric. I wish there was more detail to add about it, but having made many tops like this in the past, it was a standard Kimono top that I extended to make longer.
The waist band was made with the pink fabric. I doubled this up as well, and sewed a waist piece and two tails. The bow was made in a separate piece which I added snaps to attach. I used poly fill to add volume to the inside of the bow. The bow did weight a little more than I wanted, so I added some Velcro to the top of the bow as well as the back of my kimono so that it could hold it's weight. I will likely go back and add snaps for future wear. The red tie was made of red bias!
The black under portions were just simply black leggings out of my closest. The top was a long sleeve that I modified from a work out/compression top. I completely cut it up removing the front and resewing it to resemble a bolero.
Lastly were the arm warmers and boot covers. I used the same fabric to create the same design. The sleeves I added button holes to so I could securely slip my thumbs through. The top of the arm warmers I made of interfacing and white fabric so that it would give the stiff structured effect on the top.
Finally, the white inner bra was just that. A bra I purchased for the costume.
The wig was actually two different wigs. A base black wig and then another wig which I made into a messy ponytail.
