Saya - High School of the Dead

Why this costume:
Guns and Zombies, not to mention interesting unique characters? Count me in! Several of my close friends were obsessed with the manga and got me into it as well! In order to join them in High School of the Dead cosplay, I just had to take on making Saya!
Details:
This costume was a pretty straight forward Sailor Fuku but with the unique color pallet of the series. My favorite aspect of the uniform being the pastel green panel on the side of the top. A small detail, but one which I love and really wanted to ensure I included. The top I made by using an existing button down top. I completely deconstructed it for my pattern, ensuring I included a side panel. Now that I had a pattern, I used it to cut it out the top using my costume fabric. For the white I used a poplin. The light green I used a cotton fabric I found which I thought was a perfect color! I then assembled the button down, adding green bias to the front panel as well. The buttons were the same one form the original shirt I deconstructed, but I painted them green.
Next up was the skit. It's a simple box pleated skit. I used green Kona cotton to complete it. Then, using this same material I created the top sailor collar. I wanted to make this piece a little different and separate. This so I could have a "damaged" version of the outfit without having to completely remake the top. I did this by making the Sailor collar attach in the front with a snap. The snaps could then be undone with the modesty panel removed which would allow the collar to hang open. The black bow was made and attached to the right side of the collar. This way, when closed it sat correctly or when detached from the snaps it dangled off looking damaged! A small little way of constructing the costume to give me more ways to wear the same costume!
