MOon Moxxi - Borderlands Pre-sequel
Why this costume:
I love the Borderlands series and when the DLC Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot came out I fell in love with Moxxi. Her character was really just something written after my own heart. I just knew I had to make this costume at one point or another.
Make-up:
All done with make-up I previously owned, except the base white make-up which is
Mehron in Clown White.
Details Construction:
The costume is made out of red stretch poplin. I drafted both the top and skirt patterns myself. I made every aspect but the base bra.
The hat is made of Eva foam and covered in the same fabrics purchased for the costume. I then hand painted the cel-shading effects. The hat detail was made from Worbla and hand painted as well.
The top, after three mock-ups, I finally got the fit I wanted and made it from the poplin. I cut the yellow fabric for both the bias and the collar and sewed it on. I also made some white bias to line the top portion of the bust line. I used masking tape to mark off the stripes under her bust and, while counting the correct number I did my best to paint them on. I then finished the top with plenty of cel-shading, again, trying to keep it as close to the in-game-model as possible. The buckles in the front are foam, attached to Poplin cased and turned straps, and are held down with Velcro. The bra was one I previously owned and hand sewed the teal fabric over for the more accurate look.
The skirt was drafted and sewn by me, and again, effects added to keep it as close as possible to the in-game look. Her white belt is made from foam and hand painted. The belt buckle is Worbla formed and painted.
Moxxi's blue case was made from re-covering a Tupperware container and adding her decal to it. I then attached a zipper and went to town with effects. Her thigh case was made from cardboard and Eva foam, that again was painted for the same effect and look. The strap is a leatherette top stitched and painted it attaches via Velcro.
The gloves I sewed, cut the fingers off, and then painted. The sleeves stretch enough to go around the arms and hold in place. I added the same yellow to the top of the sleeves for the cuff and added the details with acrylic paint.
Moxxi's stockings are made from cotton. I cut each stripe, finished, and then turned them (red and white). Then I sewed them onto the base black cotton. The final white stripe went over the back seam.
The boots were my favorite part, since despite Eva foam being used in other aspects of the costume this was my first time working with it or Worbla. I cut the designs from Eva foam, shaped them with my heat gun and used Velcro to attach them to the boots. I then using both acrylic and fabric paint to give the cel-shaded and blood effects.
